The Jetrad PA881 Review

Last week AtoZ Electronics handed over a portable PA system, from brand which I’m unfamiliar with. When most people see a product from a brand, which they never heard of, they tend to jump to the conclusion, that this product isn’t fit; and sometimes they are right. But not in this case.

Design

Aesthetically the PA881 looks very similar to a conventional guitar amplifier, albeit taller in shape. We have a front upward tilting control panel, which also doubles as a connection interface. All corners of the Speaker system are protected by aluminium guards, and the rest of the body is finished in carbon fibre styling. The system is placed on wheels, and at the back we can find a telescopic trolley handle (similar to the ones we find on luggage), which makes this product extremely versatile, and easy to carry around. At the sides we also find handles to ease picking up of said system, which isn’t that heavy or cumbersome in the first place. The body feels sturdy, although the buttons do feel a bit flimsy, and plasticy. But you can’t expect much more with such a price tag.

Specs and Features

The PA881 features two 200mm subwoofers, with a 50mm horn tweeter, at a frequency response between 45 and 20,000 Hz. You have a 12v internal battery, which has a life span of 7hrs, from full charge till depletion. You have the option to connect a secondary 12V battery at the back, should that not be enough, or alternatively directly connect it to a wall socket.

You get the USB, SD, Microphone, Guitar, and Phono inputs, yet it lacks bluetooth or conventional AUX connectivity (although you can buy a 75c AUX to Phono adapter). At the top you get the legacy iPhone 3/4 dock, which comes handy for iPhone 3/4 owners, yet irrelevant for iPhone 5 or Android owners. You also get a sound equalizer at the front, and Bass and Treble knobs too. Included in the package you get a wireless microphone… really. It’s not the best microphone in the world, but it’s a good peripheral, which works effectively, and has a decent operational range. You get dynamic music volume, as you sing along a song playing via the PA system. This means that each time you sing into the microphone, the volume of the music will go lower for the duration of your singing.

Performance

This nifty speaker system packs a punch, and it’s loudness makes it perfect for outdoor events. This is not comparable to a Bose system in terms of sound quality, but for the price you are paying, you have a great sound delivery without crackling or distortion. Battery performance is fantastic, and there is no audible loss in quality when using the product on battery rather than AC. It’s versatility and ease of mobility makes it a fantastic companion for parties on the go, or out door activities. The fact that it comes with a wireless mic makes it also perfect for small events requiring a hassle free small PA system, or even a fun karaoke machine for when you have friends over.

The Verdict

I have to be honest, and admit that this PA system is a fantastic solution for a wide spectrum of needs. The sheer flexibility and mobility, makes it so comfortable to bring it with you, regardless the event. The sound is great, and the extras are as fantastic as it’s price. What you are getting with this product, is, amazing value for money.
