“Roam like at home” – The EU negotiators have presented a draft on the agreement to end roaming charges (the charge when using other mobile telephony networks within the EU) on the 15th of June.
Travellers should expect to receive a text message explaining the new regulations upon arrival in another EU country.
However if you keep your local sim card in another country permanently, you run the risk of getting charged for ‘roaming’ since this initiative is targeted for tourists and frequent travellers.
People will now be able to call, text & use mobile data in any country in the EU at the same rates they were able to, in their own country; regardless of their plan. This marks the end of hefty fees for simply receiving a call.
