Last year, Whatsapp transitioned from simply an instant messaging app to also a video calling app. The video-calling feature is set to be upgraded to picture-in-picture functionality.
Picture in picture functionality
is the ability to keep doing another task in the background while a video is being played. So basically while video calling with your friend you might be able to keep typing along on your group chats and not miss out on any laughs. It remains unclear whether the video call will remain in a fixed minimised position or you can drag and drop it wherever you desire. If so, Whatsapp will be one of the first video calling apps to allow you to carry out other tasks in the background.
