It has been officially announced that the popular Ingress game, is now available on iOS devices. Google’s Niantic Labs launched the closed beta of the title the way back in 2012, and quickly become something of a cult hit.
Jack Kent, principal analyst at IHS Technology ,said
“Ingress is a massively multi player and location-based game, it makes sense for it to be available for as many devices as possible. Launching on iOS will greatly increase the number of devices and users for Ingress and thereby increase advertising revenues.
Ingress is an augmented reality game, which puts players in two different factions; they engage in a struggle for humanity while exploring real-world locations, using their phone’s GPS data. The game uses the geo-location technologies on smartphones to know where the user is in the real world, and guides them to nearby spots that have been assigned as virtual portals. The different factions are; the Enlightened, who plan to seize the power that they emit, and the Resistance, who defends the portals so they don’t get into the wrong hands. The two teams fight to locate, and collect a mysterious power called “Exotic Matter”.
The Exotic Matter is set in real-life locations, meaning that players have to move to places in real life to acquire it. Ingress transforms the real world into the landscape for a global game of mystery, intrigue, and competition.
Move through the real world using your iOS device, and discover the sources of this mysterious energy!
