Infrared implants for blind people

Pixium Vision have revealed a new device that will allow blind people to get partial vision. A tiny chip is implanted behind the retina, and uses infrared light to transfer images to the brain. Unlike current infrared implant, this system allows for a 20/250 vision, which is far from perfect but will still allow basic vision. However the company is aiming for a 20/120 vision through further development in the coming year.

Human trials are set to commence in 2016.
