The Maltese filming industry just seems to be going from strength to strength! With epic shots from Rinella’s water tank for “Foundation“, to “Jurassic World: Dominion” filmed in various local streets, filming of an epic that brings two legends of the industry back to Malta will take place in 2022.
Reunited in Malta
Oscar-nominated director Ridley Scott will be reunited with Oscar-winning actor Joaquin Phoenix. The two will surely have fond memories of their filming visit to Malta for historical drama “Gladiator“, where Phoenix had played the villainous Commodus.
The film itself raked in numerous awards, with both Scott and Phoenix receiving plenty of accolades for their respective roles in making the film the legend that it has gone on to become.
But what of this upcoming epic? Produced by Apple’s studios, it will star Joaquin Phoenix as Napoleon Bonaparte, tracking his origins from seemingly nowhere to become emperor. His relationship with wife Josephine will also come into play, and if there’s anyone capable of playing the multi-faceted versions of Napoleon, it’s got to be Joaquin Phoenix.

Filming is expected to start in 2022, although Polish cinematographer Dariusz Adam Wolski, of Pirates of the Caribbean fame, revealed on Instagram some months ago that he was scouting filming locations in Malta.
