What’s Up With WhatsApp’s Privacy Mess?

Earlier this month WhatsApp tried to calmly inform users that there will be one or two changes to their privacy policy. It all backfired, mayhem ensued and the Facebook-owned company is now fighting misinformation. They’ve extended the opt-in date, but not much else has changed. You’ve got to accept the updated T&Cs, otherwise you won’t be able to send or receive messages.

Ch-ch-changes…

Some things will change, and others won’t. That’s not us being philosophical, it’s WhatsApp clearing up the mess they created. Here’s what’s set for an update…

And here’s what’s staying as it is.

To further clear up their earlier muddled message, WhatsApp has clarified that “the recent terms and privacy policy update do not affect personal messages. The changes are related to optional business features on WhatsApp, and provides further transparency about how we collect and use data.”

Well, OK then.

So, while it may be true that very little is changing, we won’t blame anyone for taking a longer look than usual. You’ve got until 15th May to do so.
