Netflix has been one of the top contenders in recent years as a media consumption platform. Moreover, Netflix use in Malta has continued to increase in recent months due to the larger amount of hours spent at home during the COVID-19 pandemic. One of the most interesting features offered is the ability to see what people in your own country are watching, as opposed to what’s popular around the world. Here’s how Malta’s current top 5 compares to the global trends:
Rank | Malta | Global |
---|---|---|
1 | Space Force | Space Force |
2 | Rick and Morty | Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich |
3 | Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich | Sweet Magnolias |
4 | Queen of the South | Uncut Gems |
5 | White Lines | Avatar: The Last Airbender |
The number 1 spot is the only place where Malta’s Netflix users agree with the worldwide trends! Space Force was released just last week and has been heavily promoted by Netflix since. Coupled with comedy veteran Steve Carell taking the lead role, it’s no surprise that this new series comes out on top.

Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich, a series covering the infamous billionaire who was involved in shocking crimes over the years, takes a spot on both lists, which also isn’t a surprise given that over the past few months, crime series and disturbing tales from reality have proven to always be a hit on Netflix.
Animation finds its way onto both lists, with the worldwide demographic choosing to revisit cartoon classic Avatar: The Last Airbender. Since all 3 seasons have dropped on Netflix this month, following the show’s end over 10 years ago. Malta instead has delved into a mind-boggling, more recent series: Rick and Morty. It’s worth noting that although both are animated series, Rick and Morty is intended for a more mature audience. Although ATLA still maintains a cult following amongst adults due its mature undertones, beneath the childish exterior.
Have you been binging Netflix during these last few months? Or have you been trying to avoid that kind of entertainment in favour of something more active?
If you’re stuck for what to see, then we definitely have some recommendations! Out of the above list, we recommend Uncut Gems, a tense adrenaline rush of a film with the best Adam Sandler performance in years. But if you’re looking to binge a series, we gotta agree with our country’s #2 pic here: Rick and Morty is a blast!

*WOO! We’ve just managed to write a Netflix article without mentioning Tiger Ki… Oh damn it.*
