The United Nations has established the 21st of April as World Creativity & Innovation Day. In essence, it’s an effort to raise the awareness of the role of creativity and innovation in all aspects of human development, not least education.

The local perspective

A Zoom event will be on the day at 5.30 PM, hosted by Creolabs and supported by the Swieqi Local Council and the Malta Innovation Forum. Parents and students aged 11 up are encouraged to attend, but after that, the rest of the island should keep an eye on what’s to come.

The current education system focuses mainly on extracting intellectual capital, without giving creativity capital the same kind of importance. This then extends into adulthood and the working world, leading to a rather poignant question. Could it be that entire economies have been built on using only half the resources available?

If that’s the case, then it’s time for a change. Watch this space, because it could well be that entire schooling systems could be revamped for the better, starting with our own!

Do you think Malta’s education system is in need of improvement? Comment below and save the date!
