It’s Monday night. You have a hectic week at work ahead of you and all you want to do is have some time to relax and zone out. So, you switch on your TV, hit the Netflix button and prepare for some ‘me’ time. But with so many great shows to choose from – trending, comedy, sci-fi, horror –  it’s hard to decide. So, should we just give up and watch Akila – theentertaining” modelling show instead? We really think not! Here are Gadget’s top Netflix shows of the moment available on the streaming giant. If you’re not already a Netflix fan – you will become one now!

If you’re looking for a new series to get hooked on then this American crime drama can be added to your ‘favourites’ listing. Set in Lake Ozark, Missouri, a family with teenage children is forced to move from Chicago to the Ozarks following a money-laundering deal gone wrong by financial planner and father, Marty Byrde. The Emmy-nominated show’s storyline, revolves around a family on the run from the Mexican drug cartel and the FBI.

Why we love it:

  • New to Netflix
  • Mexican drug cartel storyline
  • Morally dubious characters

Black Mirror

Inspired by the Twilight Zone, Emmy award winner Black Mirror is a British sci-fi thriller series which explores technological scenarios alongside a paranoid, satirical storyline. Each story has its own unique set of cast and characters so if you’re looking for a series which can be seen in isolation to its other episodes, then this is the one for you.

Why we love it:

  • Unique stories
  • High tech storylines
  • Can be picked up from any season

Stranger Things

If you’re looking for a sci-fi thriller which defines compulsive viewing and will have you slumped on the sofa for hours, then this is a must-watch! Stranger Things is sci-fi horror, set in the 80s, about a boy who disappears around the same time a girl with special powers enters the scene. The thriller has earned 31 Emmy nominations and has season 3 set in the pipeline to air in July – better catch up on the first few seasons before summer hits!

Why we love it:

  • Keeps you on your toes
  • Immerses us into the ‘80s world when the tech was in its early days
  • Takes you far away from reality

The Crown

We can’t seem to get enough of the Royal family. The Crown is a period drama which portrays the life of young Queen Elizabeth II and her relationship with Prince Philip, her sister Margaret and the rest of the family. We get to see a more personal side to her royal highness and come to understand the challenges of being at the head of the throne with having to confront many personal issues – such as marital problems, sibling rivalry, all of which are also day-to-day life issues we all experience.

Why we love it:

  • Brings to the fore relatable issues
  • Great sets and costumes
  • Feeds our Royal family addiction

If you’re looking to watch a British crime drama with eccentric characters then look no further than Sherlock. The series, based on Arthur Conan Doyle‘s famous detective stories, sets the tales of our favourite sleuth in the present-day, as Sherlock unravels mysterious crimes with his trusty side-kick, Dr Watson. Crime and wit are the order of the day, and the series stars a knock-out Benedict Cumberbatch.

Why we love it:

  • Witty humour
  • Fun to watch
  • Benedict Cumberbatch

One of TV’s all-time great comedies and perfect for a night filled with laughs. The series, made and (of course) set in the 90s, is THE show about life as a twentysomething, giving, what we think is a somewhat realistic depiction of what it means to be in your 20s – grim love lives (“We were on a break”!), financial woes and work pressures (minus the apartment). The show is the perfect antidote if you’re looking to watch something light-hearted which will leave you feeling warm and fuzzy on the inside.

Why we love it:

  • Hilariously funny
  • Relatable
  • Great cast

There are numerous other popular shows such as: Daredevil, Sex Education, The Great British Bake Off and the all-time classic Doctor Who which can keep you entertained for days on end. So if you’re not subscribed to Netflix yet, sign-up now for hours of pure bliss!
