Though its original purpose was far from pornography-oriented, OnlyFans grew into a world-leading site for most things sexually explicit. With increasing pressure from banking partners, OnlyFans took the decision to ban certain types of content, starting October 1st, but what changes are to be expected?

Nudes are still permitted

Nudity, to an extent, is not considered sexually explicit, though still NSFW, which is why nude content will still be available on the site. That being said, content creators will still need to be wary of the policies set by OnlyFans, an excerpt of which you can read below.

In a statement explaining the move, OnlyFans said “In order to ensure the long-term sustainability of our platform, and continue to host an inclusive community of creators and fans, we must evolve our content guidelines”.

How it all happened

The social-media site allows content creators to upload material in the form of videos and photos, and subscribers are charged a monthly fee, but can also tip creators. Content could be anything a person wants; chefs can upload special recipes for paying fans, artists can reveal exclusive pieces…the list goes on. In turn, OnlyFans takes a 20% cut.

What really shot OnlyFans to global fame is the act that sells the best: sex. Even Malta had its own OnlyFans couple before they split, showing the pulling power and willing payers the site offered. However, when BBC News approached the company about leaked documents and illegal content, OnlyFans did not provide adequate responses.

The problems stacked when it was revealed that although illegal content was removed, creators were given multiple warnings before action was taken, with even moderation specialists and child protection experts saying that the tolerance for illegal content was worrying.
