It’s the beginning of the year and a time to reflect on all things past, present and future. Last year, Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg rang in the new year with his resolution on his Facebook page: “The world feels anxious and divided, and Facebook has a lot of work to do,” he started. “My personal challenge for 2018 is to focus on fixing these important issues. … If we’re successful this year then we’ll end 2018 on a much better trajectory.”
As we all know, the year didn’t quite go as Zuckerberg expected! Still, listing goals is fun and with that in mind, here are our top 5 New Year Resolutions.
Spend less time on social media
We all know this is super-hard especially in a boring, snooze-fest lecture. But reducing the amount of time we spend on social media might actually allow us to take in our present surroundings and live life less in our bubble of Instagram and Facebook – we might even notice the hottie on the table next to us!
Exercise and monitor fitness
Jeans feeling a bit snug after Christmas? Exercise and physical activity can help you lose those extra KGs you gained over the holidays and improves overall health. Apps such as Aaptiv, ClassPass and MapMyFitness provide workout platforms which track activity. You can also get feedback and stats which can shared with friends and on social media. You can also invest in a Fitness Smartwatch such as FitBit which monitors your heartrate and keeps track of your fitness and sleep patterns.
We all know how easy it is to get caught up overspending. Before we know it, the money we saved for our skiing holiday has gone on that oh-so-trendy coat. Luckily for us, technology can help us save money with little effort. Services such as Revolut’s Vault allow you to save all your spare change by rounding out every purchase to the nearest euro and placing the extra in a vault of the spare change.
We’ve all been there. We go on holiday, take a million photos and never find the time to sort them. Apps such as Google Photos include highly effective image recognition to automatically apply appropriate tags making searching for specific photos effortless. The app also recognises photo contents — for example, photos with cats will be assigned the “cat” tag so the next time you’re looking for a specific photo with a cat in it, you can find it simply by searching for “cat.”
Be Nice Online
We all know how frustrating and irritating it is when someone writes negative comments online about our favourite film. A Star Is Born is for girls? Not it’s not! Before replying, always think about the person reading the message and comment nicely. We all know how hateful trolls can be. Don’t be that person!
