Two days into the new year, and of course, very little has changed. 2020’s major disruptions heavily affected movie releases, what with halted productions and closed movies theatres. However, 2021 is set to host a vast array of movies, but which ones have got us excited?

Detective or spy?

10 years after Robert Downey Jr. hung up his hat as the world’s greatest detective, he reprises his role as Sherlock Holmes, together with Jude Law as Dr. Watson. Set for release in late December this year, the Gadgets team has got high hopes for the third instalment!

Speaking of gadgets and the British spy world, this year we’ll get the 25th James Bond movie, and Daniel Craig’s last outing as the great 007. He’d already once said he was sick of the role, but with a great script (and a promise to end his “misery”), Mr. Bond returns in April in “No Time To Die“.

Nic Cage as…Nic Cage

One of this writer’s movie dreams was to see Nicholas Cage play Nicholas Cage. And, it’s set for release one day before his birthday. How touching. The very aptly titled “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent” will see the actor become a version of some of his most iconic and beloved characters as he tries to save his wife and daughter. We just can’t wait to see the mayhem in this one.

You don’t say!

Well spotted

In May we’ll also get to see the infamous and villainous backstory of Cruella De Vil, from 101 Dalmations. In a live-action movie with a pretty strong casting, Emma Stone will play the titular character, as we witness her demise into the dog-fur obsessed heiress.

Heroes to the rescue, again

When Marvel announced Phase 4, fans finally got what they had long been asking for: Black Widow‘s stand-alone movie. So, expect all the tension, action, comedy, drama and stellar casts we’ve come to expect from the MCU.

Scarlett Johanson, Rachel Weisz, Florence Pugh & David Harbour

And another superhero making a comeback is none other than Keanu Reeves. What? The man’s a superhero in real life too, and is officially the nicest man on the planet. In any case, he returns for Matrix 4, scheduled for a December release. Although Morpheus and Agent Smith won’t be returning, expect gravity-defying action scenes and Neil Patrick Harris, who’s been recruited in an undisclosed role.
