A Facebook post by FKNK has revealed that the Maltese hunting lobby will be getting their own dedicated app, working in tandem with hunting-based software developers Hunter & Companion GmbH. So, what can we expect to see from this app, and how has it all come about?

Shared passions

The move comes as FKNK looks for modern ways of getting closer with its members. In a statement, FKNK president Lucas Micallef said: “We have communication from several people, and we want to strengthen it further. The door of the FKNK always remains open, for every person and entity that in some way wants to speak or work for the cultural practices of hunting and trapping and for the good of the natural environment.”

Hunter & Co already developed a hunters app in Austria, where they can keep up to date with news, videos, information and updates from the Upper Austrian Hunting Association in the app. It would stand to reason that the FKNK app will run in a similar format.

In fact, in Hunter & Co’s part of the statement, it explains that the tool will “allow the Maltese hunters and trappers to plan, organize and execute their experiences in the field, in a safer, more secure, and more successful manner with features such as point of interest mapping, harvest recording and securely sharing the location and safe shooting direction of other hunters in the field.”

Hunter & Co CEO Lorenz Frey-Hilti said of the new agreement: “We are excited to work closely together with our Maltese friends to optimize our exciting app for hunters, which will also benefit wildlife research and management”.

Promoting sustainable wildlife management

The collaboration between FKNK and Hunter and Co. should spell an increase in sustainable wildlife management, accurate monitoring, and decision-making based on accurate information. The software company are creators of the “MyHunt” app and is the largest hunting app developer in Europe with over 500,000 installations.

Do you think this app will help promote better management of wildlife in Malta?
