In a joint-venture, Water Services Corporation (WSC) and the Malta Chamber of SMEs are investing in the installation of two solar farms in Ta’ Ċenċ, Gozo. They will go on to power around 500 households and it’s a great step forward in terms of achieving sustainability across the islands.

Incentivising clean energy production

As Malta looks to keep its promise of reaching carbon neutrality by 2050, this step is a welcome one. The move forms part of the government’s vision of incentivising renewable energy in Malta, and Minister Dalli stated that “this is a sector where we’re seeing a partnership between the private sector and the government ensuring the vision of a clean economy can be achieved together”.

As Malta Energy plans to expand its operations outside of the WSC’s facilities into other government-owned plots, the organisation’s CEO Noel Gauci revealed that in the future, families who do not have space to install panels will be able to buy portions of future projects.

The panels can offer electric vehicle charging bays, shelter and so much more too.
