Computers take over Journalism?

There are just some jobs that computers cannot do. That list of jobs is slowly getting shorter as new technology and programming algorithms change in order to improve on a day to day basis.

The UK Press association is working on populating platforms with articles written by robots, with Google also giving a helping hand. By giving a helping hand I mean a grant worth €706,000 which will go solely to the cause of creating 30,000 computer written articles for use in local papers.

the PA’s edition-in-chief, Peter Clifton said, “Skilled human journalists will still be vital in the process, but Radar allows us to harness artificial intelligence to scale up to a volume of local stories that would be impossible to provide manually. It is a fantastic step forward for PA.”

One could argue that when writing an article a human can provide a more full immersive experience due to character and tone although this is clearly a far-from-finished process. The main focus is the efficiency of computer’s writing articles much faster and more efficiently than humans.
